Obituary for Arthur Gresh

Arthur “Art” Gresh. 95, of Ramey, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Penn Highlands Dubois Hospital.

Born on July 26, 1922 in Ramey, he was the son of the late Steve and Anna (Bobby) Gresh. He lived in Ramey most of his life. On May 15, 1948, he married Julia Evanchuck, who preceded him in death on February 22, 1989.

After graduating from Madera High School, he worked in the CCC Camps in New Mexico and Texas. He then enlisted into the Army in 1942, where he spent his time as a top secret courier throughout England, France, Belgium, and Germany. After the war he was selected to play baseball in Paris for six months. Upon returning to the states, he went to work in the steel mills in Pontiac, MI and Ambridge, PA. After he married they returned to the family farm homestead, where he spent seventeen years as a poultry farmer. Next he went to work for PPG Industries in Tipton, PA, where he retired in 1985. He enjoyed reading, music, dancing, baseball, and nutrition.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey.

Art is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Bill) Gudalis of Sykesville, PA, and Dorothy (Joel) Mounts of Treasure Lake, Dubois, PA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a longtime friend Carole (Tina) Campbell of Coalport, and several nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Anna, a brother Dave of Smithmill, a sister, Janelle of Boardman, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-7 PM in Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Parastas will be sung at 7 PM.

Funeral Sevices will be held 10 AM Wednesday at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey. Rev. Anthony Balistreri will officiate.

Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Cemetery, Ramey.
