Obituary for Eugene G. Shimel
Eugene G. Shimel, 93, of Houtzdale, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at UPMC Altoona Hospital.
Born May 19, 1928 in Ramey he was the son of the late John and Mary (Petrovich) Shimel.
On November 26, 1954, he married Margaret Hutchison in Winchester, VA, who passed away in 2017.
He worked a carpenter and retired from PPG after 20 years. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Houtzdale, and was a member of the American Legion Post #591 in Houtzdale for over 60 years. He loved camping, and spending time at Glendale Lake fishing and boating.
He was the last of his generation as he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Jack, and eight sisters, Helen, Margie, Kay, Marie, Evelyn, Josephine, Betty, and Agnes.
Gene is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Dave) Camberg of Glen Hope, a son, Thomas (Lynn) Shimel of Hawk Run, five grandchildren, Theresa, Carol, Beth, Dana, and Jonathan, three great-grandchildren, Ava, Stryker, and Mauro, and one step-great-grandchild, Siana.
Family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 PM and Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Interment with military honors will follow in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Houtzdale Presbyterian Church, Centennial and Brisbin Sts, Houtzdale, PA 16651.
