Obituary for Gerard Allen Hansel

Gerard Allen Hansel, 88, of Houtzdale, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018 at Penn Highlands Dubois. Born May 13, 1930 in Kendrick, Houtzdale RD, he was a son of Stephen R. & Helen V. (Fetcho) Hansel. Gerard was a 1948 graduate of Houtzdale-Woodward Township High School and attended Penn State for two years. He then entered the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Gerard was a master gun smith and antique gun collector. He was a life member of the NRA, enjoyed hunting with his son and was an avid pipe collector. Gerard was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was the owner of Hansel Sporting Goods and the Pipe & Pistol Restaurant. He also owned G.A. Hansel Trucking and had worked at S.R. Hansel Coal Company. In 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Houtzdale, he married Theresa (Kitko) Hansel, who survives at home. They we blessed with 63 years of marriage. Gerard is also survived by a daughter Connie Wolf and her husband Eric of Treasure Lake, a son Stephen Hansel and his wife Judy of Houtzdale; two granddaughters Janel Vancas and her husband Jason and Jennifer Meckley; two step grandsons Gregory Hamm and William Hamm; four great grandchildren Madison, Anderson, Hannah and Brock; three sisters Elaine Donley of Houtzdale, Carolyn Dugan and her husband Charles of Allison Park and Louise Crankshaw and her husband Geoffrey of Erie; and a brother Leon Hansel of Ramey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Eva Hansel, a brother Thomas Hansel and a special Aunt Mary “Mimi” Kufchak. Friends will be received from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM Thursday, November 29 and 9-10:30 AM Friday, November 30 at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, November 30 at Christ the King Parish, Houtzdale, with Fr. Justin Pino as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ramey.
