Henry B. “Hank” Swoope, IV, 74, of Madera, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 in Sunrise Assisted Living, Alexandria, VA.

Born on January 27, 1942 in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late William I. Swoope, and Anne G. Swoope.

He married Agnes Jane (Hawkins) on October 20, 1963, and she preceded him in death in 1999.

He is survived by one son, Henry B. “H.B.” Swoope, V, and his wife Rachel, of Alexandria, VA, one daughter, Penny Collins of Pittsburgh, PA; five grandchildren, Henry B. Swoope, VI, Jane Swoope, Graham Swoope, Amanda Reinecke and Rachel Reinecke; brothers William I. Swoope, III, Frank Swoope, and Thomas “Tim” Swoope.

Hank attended Mercersburg Academy and Madera High School. He graduated from George Washington University with a B.S. in Chemistry. After graduation, Hank began a career in the science and microbiology industries spanning three decades. He started with Scientific Products in 1965 then Mallinckrodt through the 1970s. In 1982, Hank was named Senior Vice president of Sales and Marketing for Baltimore Biological Laboratories (BBL), a subsidiary of 120 year old healthcare giant Becton Dickinson. Through the 1990s, he worked on numerous startup ventures. From 2003-2013, he worked as General Manager for Precision Mechanical, Inc. of Winchester, KY.

In 2013, Hank retired to Madera, PA to stay active in his primary passions; serving as President for the family businesses, Mid-Pen Coal and Middle Pennsylvania Coal Company, serving as Treasurer for Madera Presbyterian Church, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, tennis, racquetball and spending time with his family at the beach.

Family will receive friends 5-8 PM Wednesday at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Madera. Funeral Services will be 11 AM Thursday at Madera Presbyterian Church with Pastor Carl Bittner officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
