Obituary for John Saupp Jr.

John Saupp, Jr., 85, of Ginter, formerly of Woodbridge, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

Born on September 4, 1931 in Smithmill, PA, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Betza) Saupp.

He was a US Navy veteran, having served from 1951-1955.

John graduated from Madera High School in 1948, and attended George Washington University, and American University in Washington DC. He was a former member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Manassas,VA and a current member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey.

He married Mary Sura on November 3, 1956 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey. She survived in Hollidaysburg, PA.

He was the Regional V.P. of N.T.E.U in Washington DC, Vice-Commander of the American Legion State of VA, Life member of American Legion Post 364 in Woodbridge, VA, life member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 327 in Houtzdale, life member of VFW Post 6321 in Smithmill, the Morann Club, the Carpathian Club, Bavarian Club, AmVets, V.P. of Annunciation Society of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ramey.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Hunter, and her husband Robert, of Stafford, VA, Patricia Reeves, and her husband Gareth, of Richmond, VA, Michelle Henley, and her husband Kyle, of Brooksville, FL; four grandchildren, Sarah Pentzakis, and her husband George, John Hunter, Emily Hunter, Jacob Henley; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Mila Pentzakis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Saupp; a brother, Paul Saupp and his wife Martha, and a son-in-law, Matthew Murphy.

Family will receive friends Friday from 5-8 PM and Saturday from 9-9:45 AM in Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Parastas will be sung Friday at 7:30 PM. Funeral Service will be held 10 AM Saturday at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ramey, with Rev. Anthony Balistreri officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Cemetery, Ramey.
