Obituary for Martin J. Weiss

Martin J. Weiss, 89, of Houtzdale, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Born on March 26, 1933, in Cardiff, PA, he was the son of the late Frederick and Alice (Bundy) Weiss.
He was a US Army veteran, having served from 1953 to 1955, where he was awarded the National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Korean Service Medal. In 1958, he graduated from Chicago Technical College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked and retired as Superintendent of Engineering for Westvaco in Tyrone.
Martin was a member of the Knights of Columbus–Our Lady of the Valley Council, Smithmill VFW Post 6321, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
On Sept. 3, 1960, Martin married Genevieve Dombrosky at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Houtzdale. She survives him at home.
In addition to his wife, Martin is survived by five children—John (Kathy) of Pittsburgh, James (Lisi) of New Jersey, Mary Alice (Robert) of State College, Joseph (Jacqueline) of Connecticut, and Elizabeth (Robert) of Maryland—and eleven grandchildren: Joanna, Olivia, Chloe, Susan, Isabelle, Nicholas, Alexander, Camille, Vivienne, Ruby, and Robbie.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by three siblings, Alice, Louise, and Frederick; and his stepfather, Leo McTigue.
Friends will be received 5-8 PM Friday and 9-9:30 AM Saturday at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale. Rev. Joseph Czarkowski will be celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.
