Obituary for John "Jack" Plummer

John "Jack Plummer, 87, of Ginter, died at 3:38 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at at his home.

Born on April 6, 1927 in Osceola Mills, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Franek) Plummer.

He graduated from Bigler Township High School. On March 7, 1945 he joined the US Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. He received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. In 1948 he joined the Merchant Marines for two years and sailed in the Atlantic. He also served in the Naval Reserves in Altoona for twenty-three years, retiring on March 1, 1980 as an Electricians Mate 1st Class.

He then went on to Williamsport Technical Institute to become an electrician. While going to school, on Dec. 1, 1951, he married the former Frances Dombosky. He worked for Lycoming Motors in Williamsport, then Meyer Brothers Electric in Philipsburg for eleven years. Then he joined the I.B.E.W. Local Union #5 in Pittsburgh and after twenty-three years of service, retired in 1989.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ramey. A life member of Stephen Kandrach Post 6321, a life member of the American Legion Post 591, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Bellwood, B.P.O.E. #1173 Philipsburg, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #327 in Houtdale, and the Morann Citizens Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet Plummer of Coraopolis, PA, a son, John Plummer of Ginter, a sister, Mary Ellen Hainsey of Ginter, a niece, Carol Vogle, and a nephew, William Hainsey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Frances on Jan. 5, 1987.

Family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, and Tuesday from 9-10:15 AM in Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Ramey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 9, 2015 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey with Rev. Zab Amar as celebrant. Interment With military honors will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ramey.
